Frequently Asked Questions

The frequency of your dental check-ups depends on your oral health needs. Generally, we recommend a check-up every 6 to 12 months. However, if you have a higher risk of dental problems, we might suggest more frequent visits.

Regular professional cleaning helps to keep your teeth and gums healthy by removing plaque and tartar buildup. Just like dental check-ups, the frequency of professional teeth cleanings can vary. The standard recommendation is twice a year, which corresponds with typical check-up schedules. However, people with gum disease, cavities or other oral health issues may benefit from more frequent cleaning.

A dental interview involves a conversation to understand your oral health history and any concerns you might have. Common questions include:

  • Do you have any current dental problems?
  • When was your last dental check-up and cleaning?
  • Are you currently experiencing any pain or discomfort in your mouth?
  • Have you noticed any changes in your teeth, gums or mouth recently?
  • What is your routine for oral hygiene at home?
  • Are there any past dental procedures you’ve undergone?
  • Are you taking any medications, and if so, what are they?

These questions help us gather information about your overall oral health.

When visiting a new dentist, it’s important to come prepared with the following:

  • Details of your medical history, including any conditions you have and any medications you take.
  • Information about your dental history, such as previous dental issues, surgeries or treatments.
  • Your previous dentist’s contact information if you’ve undergone any treatment in the past.
  • Details of your dental insurance, if you have any.
  • List of questions or concerns you might have about your dental health.

Dental anxiety is a common concern, and we want to make your visit comfortable. We follow several strategies to ease your worries:

  • Open communication: We encourage you to express your fears or concerns with us. This allows us to adjust our treatment plans and approach to enhance your comfort.
  • Gentle approach: Our team provides care in a gentle and understanding manner. We explain every step of the procedure to avoid any unexpected surprises.
  • Relaxing Environment: We create a soothing and welcoming environment at our clinic to put our patients at ease from the moment they walk through our doors.

The Australian Dental Association recommends that a child’s first dental visit should be when their first tooth becomes visible or when they reach 12 months of age (whichever comes first). This initial visit is an important step towards meeting your child’s oral health needs. Furthermore, it helps to accustom your child to the dental clinic environment, reducing anxiety and fear as they grow older.
